Description

Manilkara zapota, commonly known as the sapodilla, is a long-lived, evergreen tree native to southern Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. The small pinkish-white flowers produce an edible fruit that has a rusty brown peel, is spherical, and measures about 5–10 cm (2–4 inches) in diameter. The reddish-orange flesh is mild and musky-sweet in flavor with a creamy consistency. Each fruit contains a large, shiny brown seed. It has a sweet-musky flavor and soft fresh flesh with seeds in it. Sapota is a rich source of vitamin A, C, Niacin, folate, pantothenic acid iron”.
